If you ever watched Mad Men and thought, ‘This is ace, but what it could really do with is a fuel injection of fast cars, crazy drivers and incredible international competition,’ help may just be at hand from Tony and Ridley Scott, who are gearing up to produce a show about Le Mans during the 1950s and ‘60s called The Drivers.

The pair, who through their Scott Free company already have a hand in shows such as Numb3rs, The Good Wife and recent miniseries The Pillars of the Earth, have grabbed the rights to Wallace Wyss’ book Shelby: The Man, The Cars, The Legend. It tracks the true exploits of wheelmen from America and Europe who risked their lives in search of big rewards and the thrill of the track.

“I grew up in the North of England at a time when Stirling Moss was a hero," Ridley Scott says in a statement picked up by Deadline. "Everyone wanted to be a racing driver. This is a hugely ambitious project and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to tell the story of these iconic and legendary men who risked everything to win at Le Mans. It’s an epic story of courage and ambition and a history of racing which has never been told on such a grand scale.” Jeremy Clarkson just got a stiffy…. And we know you wanted that image in your noggins, didn’t you?[
