In its continuing efforts to diversify both in front of and behind the camera, Marvel Studios has begun to make positive steps in who it hires. The latest addition to the team, and in keeping with its habit of finding indie directors who might be ready to make the leap to big superhero films, The Rider's Chloe Zhao is boarding The Eternals.

Matthew and Ryan Firpo have been writing the script for the new movie, which aims to expand the MCU's cosmic presence even further. Created by Jack Kirby in 1976, the saga began millions of years ago when the cosmic beings known as the Celestials genetically experimented on humans, creating the super-powered and near-immortal beings and a more monstrous off-shoot known as the Deviants. The two races moved behind the scenes throughout human history.

It feels like a logical expansion on the back of Captain Marvel and the success of the Guardians Of The Galaxy movies, but it's another big swing. Still, Zhao has shown she knows how to make effective drama and convincing characters. According to Variety, her meeting with Marvel left such an impression on Kevin Feige and co. that they moved quickly to snap up her services.
