After a lot of will-they-won't-they, the third of the Chronicles of Riddick is finally racing ahead, with David Twohy once again writing and directing, and Vin Diesel, of course, back as the borderline psychotic, gravel-voiced member of the bald community.
Coming Attractions have seen a script, and have revealed the title, which is (ahem) Dead Man Stalking. Truly dreadful monicker aside though (which may change anyway - we previously heard the film was simply called Riddick), it does seem that this is indeed the leaner and meaner Riddick that's been talked about recently, after the bloated Space Opera of 2004's second instalment.
Riddick 3 is, according to the CA boys, "**The Road Warrior **[Mad Max 2 to you and me] to Pitch Black's Mad Max". The screenplay is apparently a taut hundred pages (so roughly a hundred minutes), and begins with a battered Riddick crawling on the ground of his desolate home planet Furya. There's not once a mention of the Underverse, but the film as written does deal with Riddick's newly acquired position as Lord Marshall of the (ahem) Necromongers. Chronicles' Vaako features heavily. Does that mean Karl Urban will be returning?
Necromongers aside, this seems like it's back to the killer Riddick of old, with some nods to the idea that his big mistake was in allowing himself to start caring, and getting seduced by civilisation. The "hard R script, full of death action and peppered with filthy language befitting the characters", will presumably go before the cameras after Vin gets done with Fast Five.
