Still hard at work on his Star Wars entry, currently only known to the wider world as Episode VIII, writer/director Rian Johnson has been sharing the odd picture from the film's shoot. He's put up a new image of Lupita Nyong'o bringing Maz Kanata to life.

While Maz wasn't universally loved in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, mostly thanks to her seeming use as an expository character, there are hopes that she'll be fleshed out a little more in the next main franchise entry. Of course, exactly what she'll be up to is still a closely guarded secret, but she does have some link to Rey's (Daisy Ridley) history and a knowledge of the force, beyond the fact that she's been around a while.

Ridley's back for the film alongside John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Mark Hamill, Gwendoline Christie, Domhnall Gleeson, Carrie Fisher, Andy Serkis and Anthony Daniels, with new arrivals this time including Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran. And if The Sun is to be believed (not always the most reliable source for news, but still), Adrian Edmondson will be joining them in some unknown capacity.

Star Wars: Episode VIII will be out here on December 15, 2017.
