Most actors like receiving awards and the Screen Actors Guild in America enjoys handing them out. The likes of Bryan Cranston, Leonardo DiCaprio, Johnny Depp, Cate Blanchett, Brie Larson, Saoirse Ronan and Steve Carell are among the nominees for the 22nd annual awards, due to be handed out on January 30.
There’s the usual crop of film awards front-runners to be found here; in addition to the list above, there is also Michael Fassbender, Eddie Redmayne, Rooney Mara, Rachel McAdams and Kate Winslet, but one or two surprising omissions, especially The Martian, Jennifer Lawrence or indeed anyone from Joy (David O. Russell films have tended to be garlanded with at least nominations in the past).
And beyond the big screen, there are the TV nominations, which this year includes Idris Elba (nominated for Luther as well as his Beasts Of No Nation film nod), Bill Murray (for effectively playing himself in Netflix’s A Very Murray Christmas), Peter Dinklage, Jon Hamm, Kevin Spacey and welcome recognition for Bob Odenkirk, Rami Malek, Ellie Kemper and Amy Poehler.
