Immigration - legal and otherwise – has been a hot button topic for years, and is particularly part of the political discussion both here and across the pond. The Revenant's director Alejandro G. Iñárritu is wading into the conversation and also experimenting with some new filmmaking technology as he's starting work on a virtual reality short film.
Legendary Entertainment is backing the film alongside Fondazione Prada, and the filmmaker will have the support of Industrial Light & Magic's ILMxLAB, which has been working on several VR projects and will build the virtual world and characters for a story that will follow immigrants and refugees as they make the difficult crossing between Mexico and the United States.
And there's another key player involved in this one, as regular Iñárritu collaborator and genius cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki will be making sure the visual style is up to their usual exacting standards. There's no release date for this one just yet, but we're sure it'll be quite the experience when they're finished.
