There has been chatter about a potential Judy Garland biopic floating around for years. Now a slightly different project about the iconic actress and singer has made it to the pre-production stage, snagging Renée Zellweger along the way to play Garland in Judy.
True Story's Rupert Goold will direct the film based on a script by The Crown's Tom Edge. Zellweger will be Garland as she heads to London in the winter of 1968 for a five-week series of sold-out concerts in London. She's 47 by this point, tired of the grind and just wanting to be home with her children.
As the pressure of the new workload starts to wear on her, there are concerns that the show may not be able to go on this time. The aim is to have some of Garland's most famous songs in the movie, so we can likely expect Zellweger once more firing up her pipes as she performs the likes of Over The Rainbow. Goold will start work on the film in the UK in February.
Zellweger has recently worked on musical romantic drama Best Day Of My Life, which has yet to announce a release date.
