Regina Hall Starring In Midnight Run Sequel

After years sitting in a development drawer, occasionally dusted off only to return, Universal's plan to make a cinematic sequel to Midnight Run actually look like they'll come to fruition, as Regina Hall is now attached to star in and produce a follow-up to the classic 1988 comedy.

Original star Robert De Niro is so far only aboard as a producer, though the story details and any connection to the original are being kept quiet for now, so he could be back as grumpy bounty hunter Jack Walsh.

Martin Brest's comedy saw De Niro's Walsh tasked with collecting mob accountant Jonathan Mardukas (Charles Grodin), and get him to Los Angeles. Problem is, the accountant can’t fly, putting the easily irritable bounty hunter and fastidious accountant on an endless road trip in which they’re pursued by the Feds and a rival bounty hunter, Marvin Dorfler, played by John Ashton.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine writer Aeysha Carr is on script duty for the new outing, but we'll wait and see if this hits screens or goes the way of the last effort, which had Brett Ratner attached to direct. Oh, and we said "cinematic" effort up at the top, because sequels do exist – just three TV movies which appeared in 1994, starring Christopher McDonald as Jack Walsh. If De Niro is appearing, perhaps McDonald could pop up in a scene and they can recreate this Spider-meme...
