The last time we wrote about Reese Witherspoon adding a potential project to her schedule, it was for the generic-sounding Wish List. Back then, we bemoaned the fact that it didn’t exactly sound like she was making anything different from her usual fare when on rom-com duty. Well, now she’s being approached for something that could be more interesting, as Sony wants her to star in Sex Tape.
No, the studio doesn't want her to go all Paris Hilton: it’s a comedy written by Kate Angelo about a married couple who get the night off from looking after their kids and decide to add a little spark back into their sex lives by making a private tape. But when they wake up, the recording is gone, kicking off a frantic search.
Yeah, it sounds a little like a kinkier Date Night, but Sony also wants Forgetting Sarah Marshall duo Jason Segel and Nick Stoller to take on the project, which could mean it turns into something fun. Segel and Stoller have proved to be a great team, and worked together writing The Muppets for Segel to star in. They’re not foolproof – Stoller, after all, contributed to Gulliver’s Travels, which Segel co-starred in – but when they’re given the freedom to create, good things happen.
As of right now, it’s all just in the offer stage, and Witherspoon has other projects on the go. And she's not the only one interested: Variety reports that Amy Adams, Emily Blunt, Rose Byrne and Jennifer Garner are all being considered. Segel and Stoller, meanwhile, are in demand, having just worked on The Five-Year Engagement, which will arrive in UK cinemas next year.
