Summer is over — the countdown to Christmas is on! And what would the festive season be without a brand spanking new holiday movie to warm the cockles of our hearts as we cradle our post-roast paunch? Well, there may be a pinch less cockle-warming and a dollop more bone crunching to look forward to in Jake Kasdan's Xmas blockbuster Red One, but the Jumanji director's upcoming action comedy — in which Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans star as an opposite-sides-of-the-tracks duo tasked with tracking down JK Simmons' ripped (and kidnapped) Santa Claus — certainly has the talent to serve up a real seasonal treat. Check out the new trailer below:
Toy store portals? Check! Life-sized Hot Wheels? Check! The Rock and Captain America landing a double punch on Krampus whilst a pair of Rock 'Em Sock 'Em robots provide cover? That'll be a check too! Sure, Red One doesn't look likely to become the It's A Wonderful Life of the 2020s, but it does look like we're getting a big ol' self-aware star vehicle driven by two of Hollywood's biggest names, packed with ludicrous set-pieces, and boasting more zany twists on figures of festive folklore than you can shake an abominable snowman's carroty nose at. And really, what more could you want? Oh, a synopsis. Well, we've got that covered: “After Santa Claus (Simmons) – Code Name: ‘Red One’ – is kidnapped, the North Pole’s Head of Security (Johnson) must team up with the world’s most infamous bounty hunter (Evans) in a globe-trotting, action-packed mission to save Christmas.”
Also getting into the Christmas spirit for this one — which, by the way, is written by Fast franchise regular Chris Morgan — are Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka, Bonnie Hunt, Kristofer Hivju, Nick Kroll and Wesley Kimmel. As for when we can look forward to seeing this one, we'll find out whether Red One is destined for our naughty or nice list when it hits cinemas in the UK on 6 November. Until then, we're just going to go back and watch that Krampus double-punch one more time. Ahh, those cockles are starting to warm after all — who'd have thunk?
