We've already seen a green-band preview for Scott Derrickson's **Sinister, but if the more hardcore horror hounds among you remained unconvinced, here's a gruelling red-band Sinister trailer to shock you into submission.
Sometimes all a red-band will add to what you've already seen is the odd f-bomb and/or some gore, but this is a completely different beast to the one we saw last time. Entirely free of dialogue, this one's all about an atmosphere of complete dread, which has as much to do with the creepy ambient soundtrack as it does the visuals. Not that the visuals skimp on the horror. We're shown a lot more here of exactly what Ethan Hawke finds on his newly inherited 8mm collection. And that's probably the most alarming cardboard box moment since Se7en.
As you can still just about glean from the clip, **Sinister **sees Hawke moving with his family into a new house, where he discovers a box of home made snuff films stowed in his attic. His ongoing investigation leads into unsurprisingly dark territory, although he might not have expected it to involve an invented pagan deity that eats the souls of children and gets at you through recorded images of itself. Hey, if you caught the film at FrightFest and you liked that guy, you can vote for him in Empire's horror poll.
Sinister has been on the festival circuit for a while, picking up some very strong vibes. Derrickson (The Exorcism Of Emily Rose, The Devil's Knot) wrote the screenplay as well as directing, and Hawke's co-stars are Vincent D'Onofrio and Juliet Rylance. It's out in the UK on October 5.
