Here's a treat for all you action fans fed up of anaemic 12-rated fantasy violence: a red band trailer for The Mechanic, starring Jason Statham as the super-expert hitman who "does assignments, designated targets..."
You'll know by now that The Mechanic is a remake of Michael Winner's 1972 Charles Bronson vehicle, about an elite assassin who finds himself training the son of one of his victims, with troublesome consequences. The Stath is in the Bronson role obviously, and the noob this time around (it was Airwolf's Jan-Michael Vincent before) is Ben Foster, with Donald Sutherland also on hand as Mr Foster Sr.
The film was shot some time ago, and we've seen a couple of previous trailers while it's been sitting on the shelf waiting for its release date. With that happy day finally almost upon us though, this is the first clip to really get us rubbing our hands in anticipatory head-crunching glee. The previous trailers were fine, but they were lacking in harpoons to the knee, bullets to the head, t&a, f-bombs, or any Weekend at Bernie's swimming activity.
Simon West (Con Air, Tomb Raider) is the director, and Statham's elite killer (not to be confused with his Killer Elite) is finally unleashed on January 28.
