Ever wanted to attend the Sundance Film Festival but were thwarted because it’s too far away/expensive/chilly? Good news – at least if you live within easy travel of London! Robert Redford’s Sundance Institute has announced that it will bring a spin-off of the fest to the capital next year.
Sundance London (they dug deep into the imagination for the name) won’t just be a smaller version of the American original. In addition to screenings of movies that made the cut for Park City, there will be site-specific showings plus live music acts, panels, discussions and a variety of other events held between April 26 and 29 next year.
“It is our mutual goal to bring to the UK the very best in current American independent cinema, to introduce the artists responsible for it, and in essence help build a picture of our country that is broadly reflective of the diversity of voices not always seen in our cultural exports,” Redford blabbed to the assembled press at the O2, which is where the event will be held.
Hhhm… Why does mention of the O2 make us think of something else cinematically important that might be happening there before Bob and the gang land? Oh, that’s right: our Empire Presents... Big Screen event, which will unspool from August 12-14 this very year. So not as long to wait, then…
