Ready For Rubik's Cube: The Movie?

That sound you hear? That would be the bottom of the barrel getting a hearty scraping. Just when you thought no one could find a less movie-ready product that Candy Land or even Monopoly, along comes… Rubik’s Cube?

Yes, according to What’s Playing’s Hollywood Insider, the multi-coloured plaything has apparently been signed up by power agency CAA, which is now touting a package around town to entice studios to consider basing a film around Erno Rubik’s brain-itching puzzle. And if someone does actually agree to this, we’re told that the agency could set about attaching one of its big name stars to the eventual movie.

It sounds rather like ticking off one of those fun lists of five or 10 other childhood games we want to see turned into movies. The Cube itself has a history in films – it’s a major plot point of** Dude, Where’s My Car?** – and has been seen in the likes of The Pursuit of Happyness, WALL-E, Duplicity and, more recently, Let Me In, but we’re not sure we really want to see it as the focus of an entire pic. Unless Vincenzo Natali uses it for a new Cube sequel. Imagine the colourfully lethal combinations!

And unless someone comes up with a really good concept, does anyone truly need a Rubik’s Cube film? Tell us…
