You don't need to have to be the sharpest tool in the box to realise that, above all else, Jack Black rocks. He's almost invariably the best thing in any film he's in, he's extraordinarily amusing (though quite possibly mad), and in his latest film, School of Rock he gets to rock for real. This quite alarmingly funny film sees Black on career-best form as a failing rocker who pretends to be a substitute teacher in order to make a few extra bucks. Discovering that his new charges have a certain aptitude for the musical side of things, Black sets about giving them amps and attitude, grooming the kids to back him up at an upcoming rock competition. Arriving at the Empire Leicester Square with four of his juvenile band mates, Black was on high spirits - not least of all due to his recent nomination for best actor at the Golden Globes. "The fact that they gave me a nomination just means that they rock," Black told us. "You know who else is nominated? Jack Nicholson, Bill Murray and a lot of kick-ass dudes. I don't think I will, but if I win, that means I'm better than them. Right?" Pausing to comment that his nostrils are "totally flaring out" after catching his reflection in a nearby camera lens, Black went on to expound the virtues of good old rock 'n' roll. "You know, rock isn't as prevalent as it was ten, twenty years ago. But it's just like a phoenix - when it dies, it just comes back and rises form the ashes." And he should know. One half of decidedly odd rock duo, Tenacious D, Black not only croons with the best of them but strikes a mean chord or two as well -something that he's just as passionate about as his acting. Though, as Empire Online pointed out, such medium multi-tasking doesn't work for everyone. "Hey, I'm not gonna talk crap about people who play music and wanna act cause that's what I've done my whole career," Black protested. "More power to 'em. But they better not bring the weak sauce, 'cause they're gonna be roasted. Just like every other stinky musician
