In an age when it seems every movie that made any sort of impact at the cinema is being turned into a TV series, this latest announcement should not be much of a surprise: High Fidelity is now being given the treatment.
The 2000 movie starred John Cusack, Jack Black and Todd Louiso, following the romantic travails of the main character (Cusack's Rob Gordon), a record shop owner with a penchant for commenting on his life.
While the movie was adapted from Nick Hornby's 1995 novel, the new show – with writers Veronica West and Sarah Kuckserka attached to kick things off – will be inspired by the book and the movie, retaining some basic details (the character owning a music store and documenting their life), while a lot has been changed. The main character will be female in this version, and the language will be toned down.
The latter is partly because this is being targeted for Disney's new streaming service, which aims to launch next year with a variety of original programming and shows tied to the company's sprawling cache of rights, plus Disney's huge movie archive.
