The reaction to Captain America’s Agent Peggy Carter getting her own short film as part of Marvel’s **One-Shot **series (it appears on the Iron Man 3 Blu-ray) has been overwhelmingly positive. So positive, in fact, that the company and Co-President Louis D’Esposito in particular (who has directed and overseen the shorts) thinks there is scope for Hayley Atwell to return.
"What we've discussed is that there are going to be more Peggy Carter stories that we need to tell," D'Esposito tells Collider. "She is wildly popular. Hayley loves it, and we love it. What we'll do and how we'll do it has not been determined yet, but those discussions have started. It's in our consciousness that we need to tell another Peggy Carter story, somehow. Yet to be figured out yet, though."
The current short finds a post-War Peggy heading off on a mission of her own to track down a strange new discovery, all the while dealing with a sexist pig of a boss (Bradley Whitford) and the loss of Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers a year before.
While it appears Carter has a good chance of coming back, the company has plans for various One-Shots, and given the current production rate of one per year, Carter’s return might have to wait a little bit.
"We have a file of them," D'Esposito said, referring to their unused short film ideas. "I don't know how many of them are in there right now, but some of our favourites are in there. As we get closer to the day, in talking with our actors, maybe something sparks. And now that they're becoming more popular, more people want to do them, so you never know."
