He hasn’t always had the best of luck with his genre roles – take Punisher: War Zone and Cirque du Freak, for example – but Ray Stevenson has found success recently with his performance as Volstagg in Thor. Now he’s scored another big film, signing on to play one of the big villains in G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes.

Firefly, for those who have never read his bio, is a master saboteur, a ninja and a demolitions expert, and while he’s unlikely to be the brains behind the operation, chances are this Cobra type will cause plenty of trouble for our heroes.

The line-up so far includes returning Joe veterans Channing Tatum and Ray Park, alongside new recruits Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, Elodie Yung, DJ Cotrona and RZA.

John M Chu, still best known for directing a couple of the Step Up entries and Justin Bieber: Never Say Neve****r,** **will stretch his skills to blow things up with the film, kicking off filming later this summer for a release date currently set for sometime in August next year.

Stevenson, meanwhile, will next crop up in Paul WS Anderson’s The Three Musketeers, which finds him playing Porthos. He’s also won a role in Billy Bob Thornton’s next directing job, Jayne Mansfield’s Car.
