Casting rows lead director to withdraw

With actor after actor turning down the big red pants of the Man of Steel, Brett Ratner has finally chucked in the spandex and will no longer direct Superman. Still attached to the Warner Bros flick as late as yesterday afternoon according to his camp, Ratner later issued a statement declaring, "I have chosen to withdraw as director of Superman. The difficulty of casting the role of Superman has contributed to my decision. I appreciate the efforts of Warner Bros. and the entire production team during this process." Not so according to rumours. With screaming rows reportedly taking place over the casting of the Man of Steel, the final straw for Ratner seems to be the unwillingness of the studio to approve his final choice of soap star Matthew Bomer as the perfect candidate to play Clark Kent and his alter ego. The production president of Warner Bros Jeff Robinov was, however, keen to paper over the cracks and stated, "We have tremendous regard for Brett's creativity and passion for this project and we understand that this was a very tough choice for him. We are disappointed but wish him the best in his future pursuits." Replacing Superman in Ratner's diary will now be the Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan vehicle Rush Hour 3.
