Random Acts Of Violence For Eminem?

Other than a great cameo in Funny People, regular guy Marshall Mathers has yet to build on the solid acting foundations he laid in 2002's 8 Mile. Lately however, he seems to be planning a screen comeback to match his Recovery album's success, and the latest rumour sees Eminem attached to** Random Acts of Violence**, coming together at Fox.

Random started life as an unofficial Grand Theft Auto movie, but with game studio Rockstar uncomfortable with the idea, the film has reportedly evolved into something more akin to crime thrillers like The Departed and The Town. Early script drafts revolving around mass car theft have been scrapped in favour of a more muted story about an ex-con trying to stay legit but being pulled in undesirable directions by his old gang and the FBI. Apparently the thrust of the plot sees our hero playing the two sides off against each other, so this could be a street level nth version of Red Harvest / Yojimbo / Fistful of Dollars / Last Man Standing...

In the last year or so, Slim Shady has been linked to horror anthology Shady Talez (no, really) and boxing drama Southpaw, from the pen of Sons of Anarchy series creator Kurt Sutter. Random seems closest to actually happening though, and is being produced by Eminem's Shady Films partners Paul Rosenberg and Stuart Parr (8 Mile, Get Rich or Die Tryin').

The most recent draft was written by David Von Ancken, who directed the oddball western Seraphim Falls, along with multiple episodes of David Duchovny's post-X-Files TV gig Californication. The script has now passed to other hands, but Ancken is expected to direct if and when the film goes ahead later this year.
