Scrub all memory of The Emoji Movie from your memory (screamface, see-no-evil monkey, poop, thumbs down etc.). Wreck-It Ralph sequel Ralph Breaks the Internet has just uploaded a brand new full trailer to the World Wide Web, and it looks like it’s going to visualise the world of websites, apps, and WiFi in a much more satisfying way.
The sequel to Disney’s geeky 2013 animation — which saw arcade character Ralph go out of his way to change his villainous reputation — is going bigger in this follow-up, with Ralph and Vannelope von Schweetz getting uploaded to the internet.
If the trailer is anything to go by, Wreck-It Ralph 2 will be just as reference-packed as Ready Player One — YouTube Red, Mashable, TripAdvisor, National Geographic and IMDb all make cameos in the 2-minute teaser alone, as well as riffs on clickbait, spam competitions, and the weird and not-so-wonderful stuff you can buy on Ebay. If that all seems a bit cutesy, there’s also an entertainingly weird gag about an iPad game where Ralph force-feeds so many pancakes to a bunny that it explodes.
Considering how brilliantly the Disney animation teams brought the world of Zootropolis to life, here’s hoping they can work the same magic on the ‘Net. Ralph is set to break the internet, or hopefully the big screen, when Wreck-It Ralph 2 arrives in the UK on 30 November.
