For the most part, Apple TV+'s output has leaned heavily into shows set in America (aside from the odd trip into the far future). But a new co-production BBC Studios means that Trying is resolutely British, even if the subject is universal. Check out the trailer...
The comedy-drama focuses on Nikki (Esther Smith) and Jason (Rafe Spall) who have decided that they want to become parents – but it’s the one thing they just can’t have. How are they going to fill the next 50 years if they can’t start a family? They already went through The Sopranos in a weekend.
After ruling out every other option, Nikki and Jason decide to adopt and are confronted by a world of bewildering new challenges. With their dysfunctional friends, screwball family, and chaotic lives, will the adoption panel agree that they’re ready to be parents?
Surrounding the main pair is a fun cast that includes Imelda Staunton, Ophelia Lovibond, and Oliver Chris, the show is scheduled to kick off on 1 May on the streaming service.
