Daniel Radcliffe has spent the time since finishing his long stint as Harry Potter either treading the boards or dabbling once more in the supernatural as he shoots The Woman in Black. But now he’s looking to indulge his funny bone, and is attached to Christopher Monger’s comedy The Amateur Photographer.
Monger, who wrote award-grabbing TV movie Temple Grandin, adapted the script from his own novel and will wield the megaphone for the film. There’s no start date set yet, but with Radcliffe aboard, chances are it’ll get shooting sooner rather than later, once the erstwhile Potter has finished his stint on Broadway in How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying.
Radcliffe would star as a young man in a sleepy 1970s New England town who, according to Variety, “is drafted in by the residents to capture their most intimate moments.” While that could mean everyday life, it’s tough not to hear Eric Idle nudging Terry Jones and making leery innuendoes about “candid photography.” Know what we mean, eh? Say no more.
It will be interesting to see how Radcliffe deals with a more comedic role: while Potter had its moments, he’s rarely tackled an out-and-out comedy beyond appearing on an episode of Extras. But before any of his other roles, he’ll next be seen in Part 2 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows this July.
