Now that we know that he’s actually committed to make it, locked in both a title (The Dark Knight Rises) and an actor to play one of the main new characters (Tom Hardy), Christopher Nolan is turning his attention to another crucial part of the next Batman film: actresses to take the female leads. And according to Deadline, he’s got a list of possible names for meetings.
So who are the likely ladies? Try Rachel Weisz, Blake Lively, Naomi Watts, Anne Hathaway, Natalie Portman and Keira Knightley. Not exactly big surprises, but we have confidence that the director will pick the right person for the roles.
Yes, that’s right: roles plural. While the details are still tightly wrapped in the usual Bat-shroud of secrecy, the two jobs are apparently a love interest for Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale), which he’ll need since Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Rachel met her end in the last film, and a female villain who, we presume, will work alongside Hardy (which assumes, of course, that current reports of him playing a baddie pan out.)
As for anything else? Nolan’s not saying and since he’ll likely repeat what he did with Hardy and have the chosen ones sign up without a final script, we doubt much will get leaked for a while yet.
That said, Collider has a rumour that while the director has said he won’t be shooting the movie in 3D, he’s apparently considering making it entirely in IMAX, after filming portions of The Dark Knight in the format. His final decision rests on whether the smaller, and more importantly quieter, camera the IMAX team have been developing will be ready in time for the new movie’s schedule.
