Though she’d been circling sci-fi romantic drama Passengers, Reese Witherspoon dropped out of the project due to a schedule clash, leaving Keanu Reeves alone in the depths of space. But there's good news for Neo, as he’s found someone new: Rachel McAdams is in negotiations to sign on instead.

Passengers, written by Jon Spaihts, finds a group of humans in cryogenic sleep on a long-range spaceship with a mission to colonise a distant new world. When a computer glitch rouses one of the crew (Reeves) 90 years too early, he faces spending the rest of the trip alone. His solution? Awaken a beautiful woman (McAdams) to join him on his otherwise lonely cruise. We doubt she’ll initially be best pleased. Game Of Thrones veteran Brian Kirk is making his feature directorial debut with the film.

McAdams last cropped up on our screens in Richard Curtis’ latest, About Time. She’s got several films coming up, including John le Carre adaptation A Most Wanted Man, ‘toon The Little Prince and Wim Wenders’ Every Thing Will Be Fine. The actress is also currently at work in Hawaii on Cameron Crowe’s latest untitled romantic comedy.
