There's some release date shuffling going on at Paramount, with one anticipated sequel gaining an actual release slot and another pushing its arrival back. So get ready to greet both the sequel to A Quiet Place and Top Gun: Maverick in 2020.
The follow-up to this year's horror hit about a post-apocalyptic world where humans must keep quiet lest alien creatures kill them has been in the works ever since the first film – co-written, directed by and starring John Krasinski – became a success at the box office.
Krasinski will be involved in the sequel, though he hasn't been specific about in what capacity yet. He could simply end up writing and producing the new film, whose plot is still shrouded in mystery. It'll arrive on or around 15 May 2020.
As for Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to the 1986 original had been taking aim at a 12 July 2019 release, but according to Deadline is now delaying until 26 June 2020, in order for director Joseph Kosinski to properly figure out all the flying sequences. Tom Cruise is back as Maverick, now an instructor working with, among others, the son of his late co-pilot Goose, with the new character played by Miles Teller. The film will kick off shooting soon and has been busy building its cast.
In other release date news, Sonic The Hedgehog and the still-untitled new Terminator movie are also shifting, but only by a week, with Sonic set for 8 November, 2019 and Terminator taking that film's old 15 November slot.
