A Quiet Place

Last year, John Krasinski’s masterful horror-thriller A Quiet Place kept audiences in hushed suspense, ratcheting up the tension on a brilliant high concept that revealed just the right amount of backstory. All of which makes the prospect of next year's sequel both exciting and slightly worrying – can it live up to the original, and manage to build on it without undoing the magic? There’s hope, in that Krasinski is returning to direct – and now, thanks to rumoured star Brian Tyree Henry, we have a few more hints of what we can expect.

“I really think that what we’ll do is we’ll see more of that family continuing to survive and finding out that they’re not the only ones,” Henry told Observer. “And I think that we’re also going to get a few answers to the origin of where and how this whole thing happened. I think that people want to know that. But I think you’re just going to see another side of it… more of humanity that survived this thing in this next story.”

Not only has Henry more or less confirmed his involvement in the project, but his comments fuel both the enticing possibilities and potential drawbacks of the sequel. A Quiet Place did such a stellar job of drawing out its silent world that it will be fascinating to see that expanded – but do we really need to know how the aliens first came to Earth? In Krasinski we trust. A Quiet Place 2 is currently set for a 20 March 2020 release – so expect cameras to begin rolling in the near future.
