Though speculation that Quentin Tarantino might write more about Jamie Foxx’s titular hero from Django Unchained swirled after the film arrived, all eyes have since turned to his planned new Western The Hateful Eight, in whatever final form it will take. But Django is still on QT’s mind, and he’s planning a graphic novel miniseries that will unite the gunslinger with famed masked swordsman Zorro{
Tarantino will craft the concept and basic plot for the book with comics stalwart Matt Wagner, who has written plenty of Zorro stories in his time. Once they’ve figured out the story, Wagner will write the final script.
“I'm very, very excited about both this story and the opportunity to work with Matt,” Tarantino said in a statement released by Dynamite Entertainment, co-publisher – alongside DC Entertainment – of the mini-series. “It was reading his Zorro stories that convinced me what a good idea it was to join these two icons together. And the story idea we came up with is thrilling, and I think will be an exciting new chapter for both characters.”
It’s not the first time Django has hit graphic novel pages. The film’s script was adapted into a seven-issue series last year, but the new title is even more exciting since it finds Tarantino exploring a new chapter in one of his characters’ stories for the first time. As for when you’ll be able to buy the miniseries? Expect it later this year.
