In an ideal world, Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight would screen everywhere in its lush, full format 70mm glory. Sadly, we do not live in that world, and must make do with the limited number of full scope screenings and more general, regular releases. But if you want to know what the format and QT’s plans to screen it around the US and UK are all about, the director and some of his cast have helpfully contributed to a new featurette on that very topic.
The director’s latest is set roughly a decade after the American Civil War and finds an eclectic group of law keepers, outlaws, mercenaries, bounty hunters and fugitives holed up in a stagecoach waypoint when a massive snowstorm hits the area. Soon, the two men transporting a female prisoner across the country start to wonder if they’ll actually make it out alive. The main cast includes a blend of Tarantino old hands and those new to his work, with Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Demián Bichir and Michael Madsen on the roster alongside James Parks and Zoe Bell.
Those lucky enough to catch the 70mm “Roadshow Cut” will enjoy 12 more minutes of footage than regular screenings, so if you can catch once of the UK showings of the full film (check here for a list of locations), that’s your best bet. The Hateful Eight opens in the States on Christmas Day in a series of roadshow screenings before heading to more cinemas (and over here) on January 8. You can watch the most recent trailer below, and there is an in-depth look at the making of the movie in the new Empire, on sale now.
