Cold War action comic-book Queen & Country is one step closer to the big screen as Fox hires up-and-coming** Galahad** and Hercules wrter Ryan Condal to pen a script, following a first draft from John Moore.
The graphic novels, which follow a female Brit Special Ops agent stationed in Eastern Europe, have drawn comparisons to the Bourne series: lots of guns and running, just without the memory loss.
Written by Greg Rucka from 2001 to 2007, the series is said to have been inspired by little-known ITV series about front-line personnel during the Cold War called The Sandbaggers. Rucka is known for his love of the strong woman, having put together stories for both a Marvel and DC including installments of Wonder Woman and Batwoman.
Although Nicole Kidman was at one point was tied to the project (much like ex-husband Tom Cruise was originally attached to fellow special-ops thriller Salt), the roles of blonde bomb-dodger Tara Chace and her unit are now open for casting.
So who would find thrill in the Chace? Keira Knightley certainly knows the Queen's English judging by her clipped tones in Atonement and is no stranger to a gun or a bottle of bleach following Domino. Or perhaps someone a little fresher and slightly rough around the edges would be more suited to the action-girl role? Perhaps The Take's foul-tempered Jackie (Kierston Wareing) could make like co-star Tom Hardy and give Hollywood a taste of the brutish British charm.
What say you on the matter? Casting choices on a postcard, people.
