The Purge: Election Year

Kicking off with 2013's The Purge, the film set in an America where all laws are relaxed for a 12-hour period of mayhem and violence meant to release tensions has become one of the more successful for the Blumhouse team. Now original creator, writer and director James DeMonaco thinks the fifth film could be the last.

Talking with Entertainment Weekly, DeMonaco says he's figured out a good way to wrap up the story. "I have it in my head," he says. "I think I’m going to write it. I think it’s a great way to end it all. We want to end it all, I think, in this one, and I’m very excited. When I came up with the idea and pitched it to everybody, they seemed psyched, and I think it will be a really cool ending, how we take this one home."

We'll have to wait and see whether this truly does become the final film, especially as the movies still make money (albeit with diminishing returns). Or eventually get rebooted regardless. And those seeking The Purge's particular brand of dystopian danger can still get their fix on the small screen, as the TV spin-off continues on the USA Network in the States and via Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
