Director Nicolas Roeg is in talks with Donald Sutherland and Samantha Morton for his next project, Puffball. An adaptation of a 1980 novel by Fay Weldon, the film will tell the story of a young married couple who leave London for the tranquility of a remote valley. But what they find is not peace but paganism, as their new neighbours turn out to be witches with desires on their unborn child.
Morton would play Liffey, the pregnant woman under threat, while Sutherland might play the shady-sounding ‘Lars’. A puffball, by the way, is a white mushroom that can be used in potions.
