What was one of our most anticipated movies of 2020 is now destined to become a firm favourite in 2021, as Emerald Fennell's searing debut feature Promising Young Woman is now scheduled for a theatrical release across the UK next February. The film stars Carey Mulligan as Cassie, a young woman aiming to right the wrongs of her traumatic past in a shocking turn of events.

The film also stars stand-up comedian and Eighth Grade writer-director Bo Burnham in his first big screen lead role, as well as Alison Brie, Connie Britton, Laverne Cox and Molly Shannon – and keep an eye out for a whole host of brilliant cameos from actors playing all the men foolish enough to cross Cassie.

Fennell took over as showrunner on season 2 of Killing Eve, and is currently starring on The Crown as Camilla not-yet-Parker-Bowles – and is now proving that with her first feature film as writer-director that, well, she's got a pretty promising future ahead of her. As a reminder, here's the explosive trailer for Promising Young Woman, which premiered at Sundance in January. And to tide you over until the release, have a read through Empire's trailer breakdown from last year.

After a Christmas release in the US, Promising Young Woman is finally headed for the big screen in the UK on 12 February 2021. Clear your diaries for this – it's a special one.
