Bollywood star and former Miss World Priyanka Chopra has recently been getting attention in the US for her starring role in ABC's TV series Quantico. Now the first ever South Asian actress to headline a network drama series is making the transition to movies. She's in talks to join Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario and Kelly Rohrbach in Seth Gordon's Baywatch reboot.
Chopra won't necessarily be filling a swimsuit in quite the same way as her potential co-stars, however: the role she's up for is that of the story's villain. Whether she gets to do it is currently dependent on figuring out some Quantico scheduling conflicts.
The film finds Johnson inheriting the role of by-the-books lifeguard Mitch Glazer from David Hasselhoff, with Daddario as Summer Quinn, originally assayed in the '90s by Nicole Egger; Rohrbach in Pamela Anderson's role as C.J. Parker; and Efron as an unspecified hotheaded young guard who must help his colleagues take on an oil tycoon’s plans that include beach-threatening environmental chaos.
Pre-production has been officially underway since November, and Baywatch is expected to start running down beaches in slow-motion soon, for a release next year.
