We've already had a quick glimpse at Prey, the new film set in the Predator universe that aims to tell a new type of story about a hunter and the hunted. The full trailer is now online and this thing looks like a whole lot of fun...
This one comes from 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg, and while Predator movies, even those from directors with serious genre credentials have been hit or miss (and largely, sadly, miss) the new look at Prey offers real hope.
It's the story of a young woman, Naru (Amber Midthunder), a fierce and highly skilled warrior. She has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains, so when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people. The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries.
Primarily cast with Native and First Nations actors (also including Dakota Beavers, Stormee Kipp, Michelle Thrush, Julian Black Antelope), the new movie promises a full-on action movie crossed with something like The Revenant (and not just because a bear doesn't end up faring well in it).
Written by Patrick Aison, Prey will be out via Hulu in the States and Disney+ here on 5 August.
