Ever since Shane Black signed on to co-write and direct, The Predator became a massively intriguing project — the long-awaited cinematic return of one of cinema’s greatest monsters, from the man behind Lethal Weapon and Iron Man 3. Now that the synopsis has been unveiled at CinemaCon, we’ve got an official glimpse of Black’s take on the franchise.
Like Jurassic World and Rampage, it looks like The Predator will tackle the idea of genetic mutation: “From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.”
Room’s Jacob Tremblay will likely be the young boy who causes the Predators’ comeback, while the rest of the cast includes Olivia Munn, Yvonne Strahovski, Sterling K. Brown, Thomas Jane, Boyd Holbrook and Edward James Olmos. After a few release date pushbacks, The Predator will crash into UK cinemas on 14 September.
