It was a quick run for The Nun at the top of the US box office, as The Predator arrived to spear its place. The latest entry in the sci-fi action franchise arrived to seriously mixed reviews, and earned $24 million, according to studio estimates.

That's perhaps not as successful a hunt as Fox might have liked, especially given the movie's $88 million budget before marketing costs. Still, it also took in $30 million from outside the States, for a $54.7 million global total.

For all its technological superiority, The Predator couldn't compete with The Nun on the international front, as the chiller is now up to $228 million. In the US, it earned $18.2 million in second place. A Simple Favour launched third, with the thriller taking home $16 million, while true-life tale White Boy Rick arrived in the charts at fourth, earning $8.8 million.

Crazy Rich Asians was pushed to fifth place, but the movie still earned $8.7 million, pushing its Stateside total to nearly $150 million. Sixth was action pic Peppermint, which took in $6 million, with The Meg at seventh, gobbling $3.8 million.

Praised thriller Searching made $3.2 million, ahead of new arrival Unbroken: Path To Redemption. The unlikely, faith-based sequel to the Angelia Jolie-directed original, mustered up $2.35 million. And finally, Mission: Impossible – Fallout slipped to 10th, adding $2.31 million.
