Fishnets were big in the 1980s. Everyone was wearing them — even intergalactic alien hunters going toe-to-toe with Arnold Schwartzenegger. But for 2018’s The Predator, the iconic movie monster is ditching the Rocky Horror look and donning something a little hardier, opting for fitted armour plating and a shiny new helmet — which you can get a good look at in this exclusive image from the forthcoming issue of Empire.
The need for that new armour? Not just a group of human mercenaries trying to protect suburbia, but the arrival of a new, upgraded super-Predator. “The challenge became to make it frightening,” writer-director Shane Black told Empire. “’Cause upon that hinged everything — whether you bought our heroes going up against him and felt a real threat for them. We had to invent a scenario in which the Predators were mysterious and scary again.”
Read all about Black’s attempt to resurrect the spirit of ’87 with The Predator in Empire’s August issue, which hits newsstands on Thursday 12 July.
