Go, go, Power Rangers! With mystical superpowers and handy colour coding, the latest iteration of the cosmic-crime-fighting teen team is approaching in big-screen form, and a new trailer has arrived – watch below.
Power Rangers, as we all know, originated in Japan as the tokusatsu television series Super Sentai, and was adapted into Power Rangers for American audiences in the early 1990s, ultimately morphing into a giant franchise of its own.
This is the third big screen outing for the team, with director Dean Israelite giving the franchise a breath of modern fresh air and a (moderately) more grounded tone than the campy earlier versions. A bevvy of newcomers are playing the eponymous Rangers – RJ Cyler, Becky G, Naomi Scott and Dacre Montgomery among them; while Power Rangers alumni Bryan Cranston as group leader Zordon, Bill Hader as helpful droid Alpha 5, and Elizabeth Banks as ubervillain Rita Repulsa – who, in this trailer, isn't aiming too high ("I WANT TO DESTROY EVERYTHING!").
Charge up your Zeo Crystals and lock in to the Morphin Grid: Power Rangers, 2017 edition, arrives on screens from 23 March.
