Everybody knows his bright red van, but for those who've not seen it for a while, fear not! Postman Pat will be knocking and ringing at a cinema near you, one day, possibly, in a new CGI 3D extravaganza (3D being obviously entirely necessary to depict those letters coming right atcha through the letterbox).
We wouldn't usually trust the Mirror for movie news, but this story does appear to have come from an actual source. Andrew Kerr from production company Classic Media Entertainment ("making great films happen", it says on their website, although they seem to have previously been all about documentaries) says the story involves Pat discovering he can sing and finding overnight Susan Boyle-type fame on a Britain's Got Talent-type contest. There's a Simon Cowell-type character involved, and a Wallace and Gromit-type sub-plot for Jess the black and white cat, about a mysterious rival postie.
We imagine there'll be some strong drama in Pat's manichean struggle between the lure of celebrity and the safety net of his rural idyll. "It is going to be an exciting time for Pat's fans," says Kerr. Let's just hope it's not a Magic Roundabout-type fiasco. The Mirror does not report that Robbie Williams has been invited to the party.
