The new poster for Clint Eastwood's Invictus has gone online over at Yahoo Movies, and it's doing its job pretty well by reminding us of the salient points of the film. 1. Morgan Freeman's in it as Nelson Mandela. 2. Matt Damon's in it. 3. Clint Eastwood made it. Really, what more do you need?
Based on the book by John Carlin, this is the story of South Africa's bid to host the Rugby World Cup in 1995, and then the home team's campaign in the competition to take home (or perhaps keep home) the trophy. Set only a few short years after the end of apartheid and Mandela's release from prison and election as President, the country was still deeply and bitterly divided, which threatened at times to scupper the campaign.
Freeman plays Mandela, Matt Damon puts that thick neck to use as the captain of the Springboks, Francois Pienaar. Whether he'll at any point chug a yard / wear fake boobs on his head or engage in other rugby-laddish behaviour, however, remains to be seen.
The inspirational and no-doubt dramatic Invictus is out here on February 5, 2010, and in the US just in time for Oscar season. Huh, funny that.
