Disney has just done rather well with one magical film (Frozen II) so the Mouse House will be hoping that its Pixar arm can conjure up more success with its latest, a new original offering called Onward. See the new trailer...
Onward is set in a suburban fantasy world populated by elves, trolls and sprites, where unicorns trawl through garbage cans like candy-striped raccoons. It offers the premise that magic was real but has long since been forgotten and replaced by modern technology, and finds two teenage brothers (voiced by Tom Holland and Chris Pratt) whose father died when they were too young to remember him.
When Holland's Ian Lightfoot turns 16, their mother Laurel (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) gifts them a wizard's staff left behind by their dad, and the details of a spell to bring him back for one day so he can meet his grown kids. But something goes a bit wonky and the brothers must set out on a quest to help him.
With Octavia Spencer and Pixar good luck charm John Ratzenberger also in the cast, Onward appears to promise a fun, magical spin on fraternal bonding and family. Monsters University's Dan Scanlon writes and directs here, and the movie will be out on 6 March.
