A lot of the main cast is already on board the latest Pirates Of The Caribbean adventure, subtitled On Stranger Tides, but now director Rob Marshall’s net is being cast a little wider for supporting role. Among the first announced is a mermaid named Syrena, who’ll be played by French actress Astrid Bergès-Frisbey.
It’ll be the first English-language role for the Gallic thesp, who has largely been seen in French films such as Bruc and La Fille Du Puisatier.
She’s joining a cast that includes Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Ian McShane and Geoffrey Rush, and the plot finds Depp’s Captain Sparrow on the hunt for the legendary fountain of youth.
With a hefty shooting schedule set to start in June, the film will take in Hawaii, Los Angeles and Britain. It’s set to arrive in May next year.
