The voices from the other side (well, of the Pond, since this comes from the LA Times) are starting to whisper about more developments for the film based on, of all things the **Ouija **board. The latest news? Taken** director Pierre Morel is now a leading candidate to handle the movie for Platinum Dunes and Universal.
But before you think it’ll be played for the obvious horror overtones, think again. Lost/Tron Legacy writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz are not pitching a new scary movie, but instead a supernatural action-adventure that is more National Treasure than Paranormal Activity.
Besides, since Hasbro owns the original Ouija rights (yes, it really did get turned into a game for, you know, kids), we doubt the company wants a terrifying scare-fest that would send a potentially lucrative younger audience screaming for the nearest cinema exit.
If Morel does take the job, at least it’ll mean someone who knows how to handle the action component. Even if it also means we’ll be waiting for Liam Neeson to show up and demonstrate his particular set of skills, skills that make him… No, we really are going cold turkey on that joke.
Still, we’re a ways off from an actual directorial announcement since Morel is currently bogged down working on the Dune reboot and other megaphoners are also being considered for Ouija. But as the Times suggests, Universal could be looking for a new 2012 action pic to support Battleship if the planned take on Stretch Armstrong finds itself bounced back to 2013.
