It's looking like 2021 is set to be Vanessa Kirby's year, as the British actress has found the role of a lifetime in upcoming Netflix drama Pieces of A Woman. The film, directed by Kornél Mundruczó and written by Kata Wéber, sees Kirby play Martha, a woman processing the grief of losing her newborn baby.
Kirby stars opposite Shia LaBeouf, who plays her partner Sean, as the couple grapple with their tragedy while trying to make ends meet in Boston. There's also Martha's abrasive mother (Ellen Burstyn), Succession's Sarah Snook as both a close family member and the couple's lawyer, Molly Parker (Madeline's Madeline) as the midwife now being taken to court, and even a small role from Uncut Gems director Benny Safdie.
Mundruczó and Wéber last released White God in 2014, followed by Jupiter's Moon in 2017, and are showing no signs of slowing down. Pieces of A Woman marks their English-language debut, and is set to expand the filmmakers' reach with Netflix on board and an all-star cast on top form.
The film is scheduled to reach UK cinemas on 30 December, ahead of a streaming release on Netflix on 7 January 2021. Expect to see a lot more of this one, and of Kirby, as the next awards season unfolds.
