She's been part of a Lucasfilm adventure before, but you might not have known it unless you recognised her trademark wit coming from the mouth – er grille? – of L3-37 in Solo: A Star Wars Story, but Phoebe Waller-Bridge is going to embark on her biggest project yet. She's joining Harrison Ford in the next Indiana Jones film.
James Mangold is wearing the director's fedora for this one, taking over from Steven Spielberg, who opted to step back and produce. Jonathan Kasdan and David Koepp worked on the script, while the Waller-Bridge announcement also mentions that the legendary John Williams will return to compose the score, as he has done with the other entries.
We don't yet know what the plot will be, but we're anticipating some treasure hunting, close scrapes and – now – some witty banter, especially if Waller-Bridge ad-libs.
"I'm thrilled to be starting a new adventure, collaborating with a dream team of all-time great filmmakers," says Mangold. "Steven, Harrison, Kathy (Kennedy, Lucasfilm boss), Frank (Marshall, veteran Indy producer), and John are all artistic heroes of mine. When you add Phoebe, a dazzling actor, brilliant creative voice and the chemistry she will undoubtedly bring to our set, I can't help but feel as lucky as Indiana Jones himself."
The film is scheduled for release on 29 July 2022.
