Though you might be forgiven for thinking that directing James Corden / Mathew Horne supernatural flop Lesbian Vampire Killers would be grounds for a decades-long stint in cinematic jail, Phil Claydon is being granted an early release. He’s set to direct Crawlspace for New Line{
The man helping to spring Claydon’s career from big screen limbo is James Wan, who has signed on to produce the film. It’s being primed as another low-budget horror for New Line, in the hopes that it might end up scoring as well as Wan’s recent hit The Conjuring.
Gary Dauberman has written the script, which finds a family moving to a new house and – wait for it, you can almost predict this one – discovering that it’s full of creepy energy. However, that’s not the end of the story, because the real dark secret of the place is still lurking within. Not-so-coincidentally, the project was once itself called Within.
Wan himself is, of course, busy exploring new territory away from the scare space for now, directing F****ast & Furious 7. Hopefully his experienced touch will help Claydon and co come up with something a little more satisfying than his previous stab at horror tropes.
