After a traumatic couple of weeks following the wrenching news that Edgar Wright had dropped out of directing **Ant-Man thanks to creative differences, Marvel has finally landed on a new director to call the shots for the superhero film. Bring It On**/The Break-Up’s Peyton Reed is aboard.
And he’s not alone: despite word that he was in talks last weekend, Anchorman's Adam McKay will not be handling the megaphone but *will *tackle a new draft of the script, something he’ll need to work through quickly if the film is to stay on track and shoot soon.
Reed, who has generally stuck to comedy for films such as Yes Man and** Down With Lov****e**, might seem an odd choice given his relative lack of experience with action and superheroic material, but he spent time developing the original **Fantastic Four **film at Fox before Tim Story took over. He inherits a cast that already includes Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Corey Stoll, Michael Pena, Evangeline Lilly and Patrick Wilson.
As part of its official announcement about Reed and McKay stepping board, Marvel also released a new synopsis for the film, which reads thusly: “Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.”
Ant-Man is still scheduled to hit cinemas on July 17 next year.
