The cameras are already rolling (and, if we had to guess, several punches have already been thrown) on the set of the sequel to one of the more delightful surprises of the year. With Keanu Reeves back in action as the titular hitman, the likes of Peter Stormare, Ruby Rose and Riccardo Scamarcio are all joining John Wick 2.
And that’s just the newcomers, as John Leguizamo, Thomas Sadoski, Lance Reddick and Bridget Moynahan are all returning alongside fellow first film veterans Common and Ian McShane.
With Chad Stahelski on solo directing duty this time (his shot-calling partner David Leitch remains as producer, and is busy directing something else), the script once more comes from Derek Kolstad, though no one is saying quite what Wick will be up to this this time. It’s not hard to speculate that the seemingly retired assassin will be called out of the quiet life again to deal with a bunch of criminal types who really should know better. Given what the team did with the first, we can expect another inventive set of action beats and a story that once again hits our hero personally. Perhaps someone has the temerity to kidnap his favourite llama?
We’ll see when John Wick 2 arrives next year (and hopefully won’t have to wait for months after its US release like we did with the original).
