Casting for Woody Allen’s latest, untitled project has been coming thick and fast, with the most recent story, about Lost’s Michael Emerson, arriving a mere day or so ago. It would appear that Allen has locked up the remainder of the main cast with a few surprising choices, as Peter Sarsgaard and comedians Louis CK and Andrew Dice Clay are all now confirmed.
Clay is the name raising the most eyebrows here. The controversial comic, whose career seemed to flame out spectacularly years ago, nevertheless has a fairly long credit list on the big and small screen. His most recent movie, though, was One Night At McCool**’s** in 2001, and he more recently had a run as himself on Entourage.
As well as work on Parks & Recreation, Louis CK has been doing great work on his experimental sitcom Louie in the last couple of years, showing off acting chops that make it easy to see why Allen might cast him.
There is no information yet on whom anyone is really playing, though current chatter points to Sally Hawkins and Cate Blanchett as the anchors of the film. They’re surrounded by the likes of Alec Baldwin, Bobby Cannavale, Max Casella and Alden Ehrenreich.
With a shoot set for this summer in New York and San Francisco (marking Woody’s return to the city since his directing debut in 1969 with Take The Money And Run), we can expect the new movie next year.
The Allen-man’s most recent effort, To Rome With Love is out June 22 in the States but is still TBA over here.
